Book club COEBC (City of Ember Book Club)
This was around the beginning of school where we got into groups and did a book club. The book the class did was "The City of Ember" by Jeanne Duprau. The book is about people in a city where the only light is from the floodlights, and the generator that makes electricity is starting to break down. Look me in the eye This book was about... This book is about a boy's life story of living with Asperger's syndrome. This book was written by that boy named John Elder who is trying to tell other people with Asperger's to know that they are not alone on there actions and how they feel. Then we made a inquiry question that had to be related to our book. Mine was: How are people with Asperger's syndrome impacted in today's society? After that we look for facts and information based on our question. With all the info gathered I then made my 1'st draft of a synthesis with the same exact system for writing it as the civilization creation project.
Speak up!The project is about talking and speaking publicity. For instance: we have a thing called filibuster (fil-i-bust-er) which is where you talk about a random subject as long as you can before you say like, uh, or um. This is to make us talk with real words so we can be more prepared for the poem speech. Wait a minute, what is the poem thingy I am talking about? Well right now we have been looking at poems and writing things we notice about them. Like line spacing, metaphors, rhyming, etc... we called these things poetic devices. After that we started to begin our poems. I chose to talk about the beauty of stargazing and basically self-explanatory on the content. We made a few drafts and got them critiqued to make them better. They will be presented in a place called "Queen Bee" in about 2 weeks.
The Voice. In this project, we work on finding issues in our community and then try to help stop them. For example: animal abuse, homeless veterans and deforestation. my group is working on stopping deforestation by raising awareness and planting trees. We first started with finding reliable websites and gathering information so we can make something called a synthesis just like we did with the Civilization creation project. It contained information organized so t could be turned into an essay, or how we call it, a synthesis. This synthesis has information about deforestation, and how we can stop it. After that we devised a plan to help stop this issue here it is. We will host an event by Home Depot in sports arena and will be giving out trees with brochures that contain information about deforestation and how they can help.
HOW YOU CAN HELP: You can help by coming to our event at Walter Andersen's and you can get seeds from my group for free AND get brochures containing information about deforestation and ways you can help. You can plant the seeds in our backyard and send a picture to us through the contact page on the Deforestation website. Who- My group of HTMMA for The Voice Project. What- Giving out seeds and brochures. Where- Walter Andersen Nursery 3642 Enterprise St. San Diego 92110. When- Sunday, May 29th from 12:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. (Time may change).
